Between Vallon Pont d’Arc and Saint Martin d’Ardeche in a nature reserve protected since 1980 you can explore the famous and impressive gorges. The 35km long canyon which you will explore on your bike is a superb natural, open-air museum, and a paradise for those who love biking and canoeing. Beware of the wild goats, which, sometimes, like to wander in the middle of the touristic road! From chestnut to pine forests, from the sources of the Loire to the Rhone, cycle and enjoy one day of canoeing with the ultimate in thrills in this exciting sport!

Day 1: Arrival in Orange

Day 2: Orange – Bourg St Andeol: 38km

Day 8: Departure Orange

Day 1: Arrival in Orange

Arrive in the Roman city of Orange and check into your hotel. The hotel’s reception will give you a tour package with instructions and the essentials to have a successful tour (road-book, maps and tourist information).

Day 2: Orange – Bourg St Andeol: 38km

After breakfast you will begin pedalling North. After the village of Pont-Saint-Esprit you will follow the itinerary called “via Rhona’, a cycling route along the Rhone river. This is a very comfortable ride alongside watercourses with minimal traffic to contend with. You reach Bourg St Andeol. A small town that is known for having the richest cultural heritage in Ardeche. Steeped in history and located in the heart of town, the Bishops Palace is a fine example. Overnight in Bourg St Andeol.

Day 3: Bourg St Andeol – St Martin d’ Ardeche: 25km

Today will be a fairly gentle ride with only a few climbs in the early course. Once you reach St Martin d’Ardeche, discover the magic of the depths and visit St. Marcel Caves. The Ardeche is beautifully scenic boasting underground rivers, cascading pools and extravagant cathedrals. Overnight in hotel.

Day 4: St Martin d’ Ardeche – Labastide de Virac: 25km

Once you have crossed the long river of Ardeche you will continue along the road on the other side. Halfway up you should take a well deserved rest in Orgnac. Take a guided tour of sublime sounds and lights to tell you a story that started 110 million years ago. Then enjoy a picnic in the shade of oaks. Overnight Labastide de Virac.

Day 5: Labastide de Virac – Vallon Pont d’Arc: 12km

Continue pedalling and you will reach one of the most beautiful sights of France: the gorges of Ardeche. Pont d’Arc, a natural arch over 60 meters tall carved by the River Ardeche and classified “Grand Site de France”.

Day 6: Descent of the Ardeche Gorges by canoe

You can rest your cycling legs today and instead will go on a unique experience travelling 8km down a long descent of the Ardeche Gorges in canoe. With a total length of about 35km, the gorges of Ardeche is a canyon carved by Ardeche River. You will experience many thrills with unexpected and impressive views in the heart of unspoilt nature! Overnight at the same hotel in Vallon Pont d’Arc.

Day 7: Vallon Pont D’ Arc – Pierrelatte – Orange: 35km bike + train

This is your last day of cycling where you will pass Bourg St Andeol Pierrelatte , then hop on a train with your bike ending up in Orange. Overnight at hotel.

Day 8: Departure Orange

Depart your hotel after breakfast.

    This is the first Pedal Ventures tour we've been on, which was recommended by a friend. Pedal Ventures were very knowledgable and took all the stress of planning away from us! We can't wait to go on our next tour with them in April! Lucy x
