It’s no secret that this historical city is famed for being the birthplace of Austrian Composer, Mozart. Julie Andrew’s fans will also know that this is where the Sound of Music was filmed, bringing to life its glorious lakes and alpine landscapes.

It would be tempting to spend all of your time in the Old Town, meandering from one baroque church to another; but Salzburg has plenty to reward those who venture further. Wander the cobbled side-streets; listen out for the classical music wonderfully seeping through open windows. Savour the sights, sounds, idyllic parks and relish in all this romantic city has to offer.

The route takes you along some of Austria’s famed river ways, including Salzach, Waginger See and The Inn. Following in the footsteps of some of Mozart’s favourite places such, the Silent Night chapel (in Oberndorf), the monastery in Seeon and Lake Chiemsee and further to Wasserburg where the famous artist used to rest his head during his travels.

This tour stereotypically defines the Tyrol region; lakes, castles, beer drinking, lederhosen and locals enjoying their marching bands – you could be in an Alpine fairy-tale!
